US Open : Lucie survives a strange match against Cornet and qualifies for the 4th round
Lucie survived a 2 hours 52 minutes battle against Alizé Cornet (6-3, 6-7, 6-4), in wich both players made a lot of unforced errors (47 for Lucie and 42 for Alizé) and struggled with consistency.
The first set was already difficult for the Czech as it was filled with numerous deuces and long rallies. Thanks to a drop-shot, Lucie broke Alizé’s serve at 3-3 and won the next 2 games to take the first set. The second set was very tight and led both players into a tiebreak. Leading 6-1 in the tiebreak agaisnt a nervous Lucie, Cornet took the second set.
In the decider, Lucie found herself serving twice for the match and had to wait her second match point to eventually win the battle.
She has now qualified for the 4th round of the US Open and has at least made the third round in every Grand Slam this year.
She will meet the Chinese Shuai Peng next.
