Lucie gets a bronze medal in Rio 2016!
It was not an easy route in Rio for Lucie but it ended with a drem coming true : winning an Olympic medal!
First, her original doubles partner – Karolina Pliskova, withdrew. Lucie teamed up with Barbora Strycova instead, having played together (and lost) only once before.
Following a very tough draw, they faced the 3 time Olympic doubles gold medalists – the Williams sisters – in the first round. The Americans had never been beaten in any of the Olympics they played. Until they met Lucie and Barbora, who exceeded all expectations and won the match 6-3, 6-4.
Later in the week, Lucie was forced to withdraw from the singles due to stomach illness. She played only one set against Kirsten Flipkens, before she had to walk out from her second round match.
Unsure if she would be able to play doubles, she managed to recover just in time. Lucie and Barbora successfully beat Bouchard-Dabrowski and Errani-Vinci until they fell in the semifinals against the Russian pair Makarova-Vesnina (who eventually got the gold medal).
In a 100% Czech match, Lucie and Barbora managed to beat their friends Hlavackova- Hradecka and won they very first bronze medal!
