Lucie announces retirement from tennis

Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

This weekend, Lucie Safarova is in Prague, to attend the Fed Cup final. She just gave a press conference to announce her retirement from tennis.

The Australian Open 2019 will be her last tournament and she will retire both from the singles and doubles competition.

Lucie has been struggling with health issues since 2015 and this is the main reason behind her decision.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the wonderful adventure you have afforded us as your fans and fans of the wta and tennis in general,i can say with complete honesty, that being a “Safarova fan” has never been anything but an absolute joy, whether you were winning or losing, off court and on you have been a pleasure to follow, and i will never forget the experience, also i would like to thank you for always being friendly on the many times i was lucky enough to meet you at various tournaments, you always took time to chat, take a selfie and sign an autograph, and that is what makes you stand above the rest, as a great sports person and role model, i wish you all the best in whatever you do do in the future, and hope you will stay in tennis in some capacity,

Sad news. But you must look after yourself above all else. So happy I got to see you play at Wimbledon this year and got a picture with you so thanks for that. Will be looking forward to the Australian open more than normal now.
You are a superstar in the tennis world to me and has been so great following you over the years and wish you all the luck in your future whatever you do. X

I am sorry to hear you are retiring. It has only been in the last 3 years that I have followed your matches around the world and I know that you have been a wonderful ambassador for the game making top ten in both singles and doubles. I wish you all the best in your retirement, being Australian I hope to be there in Melbourne to see your last matches and if you do come to Sydney as well, I will be on the player’s service desk again. xx
