In the quaterfinals, Lucie was facing the Russian (and No. 4 seed) Svetlana Kuznetsova. The two players were among the title favorites after the top 3 seeds had left the tournament.

Thanks to an early break, the Russian was leading 4-1 in the first set. Lucie fought back and won 5 games in a row to take the set 6-4. The second set was very tight as both players held their serves but at 5-5, Lucie managed to break. She won the match 6-4, 7-5, booking her spot for the semifinals against Begu.

Lucie reacted on her victory: “When we were walking on court I was remember when she beat me in Fed Cup here but there was a huge will for me to change that memory, and I think we played a really good match. I’m feeling good here. I really like playing indoors. I’ve played well in my first two matches here and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I hope I can keep improving my play with every match here.”
