“I was impatient in the first set but then it came together,” Safarova said. “I started keeping the ball in play more and pushing her to her forehand. Then when I got the chance, I was killing the ball. That was a good tactic for me.

“Caroline is a big fighter, getting everything back from every position, so you have to be very consistent and choose the right moments to attack.”

“I had three match points in the third set and didn’t take them. Lucie served three very good serves,” Wozniacki said. “Of course it’s very disappointing right now but I need to move on and try to do better in the next one.”

The pair had split their two previous meetings, Safarova winning on the clay of Stuttgart in 2010 and Wozniacki winning indoors at Copenhagen in 2011. Now Safarova is 2-1 in the head-to-head and collected her sixth Top 5 victory.

“It’s always like this – when you are a top player, every player who comes to play you has nothing to lose,” Safarova said. “We watch each other and we know their strengths and weaknesses, and we try to apply the tactics.

“She was also playing her first match and I had a match already. It’s good to have a match in the bag at a tournament because each tournament is a little bit different – the surface, surroundings. But I think we both played well today.”
In the next round Lucie is going to face Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, who is seeded number 14.

Lucie and Ana opened the WTA Tournament of the year. The first set between them was pretty tight but Lucka won it 7:6. In the 2nd set she used more chances and beat Ana 7:6 6:2.

In the 2nd Round Lucie will face the winner between Vera Zvonareva and Svetlana Kuznetsova (both Russia).

Lucie and Vera could not just face each other in the 2nd round but they will team up for the doubles competition. They received a wildcard and their first round opponents are Vera Dushevina (RUS) and Nuria Llagostera Vivez (ESP).

2012 season has started already earlier this week. Lucie started into the season in Brisbane, the next tournament will be Sydney before going to play at the first Grand Slam of the Season: Australian Open.

I would like to take care of people. I am thinking about physiotherapy and I studied psychology, so this is something that interests me.

Quarterfinals of Australia 2007 or last year, semi-finals of Madrid.

That’s an interesting question. I like Kate Hudson and Angelina Jolie.

What do you do when you’re not playing tennis?
Relax with my friends, go to the cinema. Chatting and being active. I like to bike outside and also being with my nieces.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?
I really love Mauritius.

What is the best Fed Cup atmosphere you’ve played in?
Always at home in Brno, where I was born, so that’s even more special for me because I have family and friends there.

If you were singing karaoke, what song would you pick?
Right now, I’m listening to Shout out Loud, Normandy.

Do you have any pre-match rituals?
Not anything special, just regular ones.

What was the last music you downloaded on iTunes?

If you could pick three people from history to have dinner with, who would they be?
It’s difficult. Maybe some actors, so maybe Kate Hudson, and maybe an athlete would be interesting. Maybe Usain Bolt. Not sure about the third.

What has been your best Fed Cup moment?
When we reached the semifinals and we were just crying from emotions. The team spirit was amazing.

And your worst Fed Cup moment?
When we were playing Italy in Italy and we lost so easily (in 2010). And then I remember I lost one in France two years ago, I lost 8-6 in the third. That was also a tough one.

Tell us something about Lucie Safarova that we don’t know…
I like to be around people I like, my close friends. I am impatient.

This weekend both teams are going to compete to win the trophy. On Saturday November 5th, Maria Kirilenko is going to start against Petra Kvitova. In the following Match Svetlana Kuznetsova will play against Lucie Safarova.

Only the Kremlin Cup and the Fed Cup Final are left for the season 2011 and Lucie is playing one of her best tennis of the season. Reaching the Semifinal at the WTA Tournament in Linz and another Semifinal at the Kremlin Cup are her archievemens in the last two weeks. It can be better, tomorrow Saturday 22nd October 2011, Lucie is playing the Semifinal against Kaia Kanepi. Both have played five times against each other. Lucie is leading 4-1.

 
Kremlin Cup will be the last tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in 2011. But a highlight the FED CUP FINAL is upcoming. Russia against the Czech Republic will be played at the beginning of November. Lucie is nominated to play for her country.

Tomorrow the Main Draw in Linz is going to start. In the first Round Lucie is facing her friend and Fed Cup Teammate Iveta Benesova. Both have played four times before against each other, Lucka is leading 4:0.

This match is not scheduled for monday.
