Today Lucie played her second round match in Miami against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (ESP).

It was a very tight match and nearly every statistic is balanced.

In each set Martinez Sanchez was able to take an advantage from breaking her opponents serve.

Initially, in the first set, Lucie wasn’t able to come back and lost the set 4-6.

Afterwards, it was different, in the second and third set, Lucie fought back and managed to win these sets.

After more than 2 1/2 hours and a rain delay the winner is called Lucie Safarova.

Her next opponent will be V. Azarenka or A. Dulgheru.

After three matches in 2009, Kanepi was her opponent again in the first round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

In the first set the match was pretty balanced, both players managed two breaks during the set and it ended in a tie-breaker. Kanepi won it 7-6 (1).

The second set was better for Lucie. She improved her first service and was able to win her opponents serve one more time than she lost her own service game. Lucie won the seond set 6-4.

The match had to be decided in a final third set. This set was similar to the second one. Lucie won the set and the match after 2 hours. The final score is: 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Lucie’s next opponent will be M. Martinez-Sanchez (ESP). Their head to head is 1:1.

This week Lucie participates in a tournament in Miami, the Sony Ericsson Open.

She is in the bottom half of the draw, with V. Azarenka and K. Clijsters in her quarter.

In the first round she will face Kaia Kanepi (EST).

Their head to head is 3-1, Lucie won the last three meetings in 2009.

Lucie’s opponent in the first round in Indian Wells was German Julia Goerges.

It was a very tough match and dominated by the services.

In every set one break was enough to win the set. Unfortunately Lucie was not the stronger one today during her own service games. In comparison to the German, she made more double faults and less aces.

At the end, after more than 2 hours, Lucie lost the match 5-7, 6-3, 3-6.

This week Lucie participates at the BNP Paribas Open.

Lucie is in the first half of the draw together with top seeded S. Kuznetsova. In her quarter is number 3 seed V. Azarenka.

She will face German Julia Goerges in the first round.

It will be their second match against each other, Lucie won the first match (last year) in straight sets.
